Canal du Midi - Part 2

We had done the Argens lock on our way downstream on Day 1 but that was much easier! Going downstream, you motor into the lock at the lock wall level so can step up onto the side of the lock with the rope after motoring in. The person who does that, loops each rope around the bollards and throws the ropes back to the person onboard to hold while the lock drains of water to the downstream level. After they retrieve the ropes and motor back out they pick up the person again downstream of the lock. Going upstream is a different kettle of fish altogether as you can see here when you motor in you are well below the level of the lock walls so the other person has to be already off the boat and up on the walls to receive the rope thrown up to them by the driver!
